The discussion will be draw on Dr. Rahman's experience and previous work on issues of economics, governance and development in publications such as Unbundling Governance (PPRC, 2007), Local Governance and Community Capacities (UPL, 2002), Local Business Dynamics (PPRC, 2006), Quality Improvements in Primary Education (PPRC, 2004), Researching Poverty from the Bottom (PPRC & Grameen Trust, 2007) and Markets and Prices (PPRC, 2007).

About the Presenters

A prominent economist and social scientist, Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman founded the Power and Participation Research Centre (PPRC), a Dhaka-based think tank, in 1996, and was also a leading researcher at the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies for over twenty years, specializing on poverty and governance issues. He served as a member of the SAARC Poverty Commission and has advised numerous government and development agencies. Most recently, he was the Advisor (Minister) for Education and Commerce in the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh. Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman holds a Masters in Economics from Dhaka University and a Ph.D in Political Sociology from Manchester University.
